How Does Zymaxid Work?

Zymaxid works by killing certain bacteria that cause infections. Specifically, it interferes with the bacterial enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. These enzymes are essential for the bacteria to make DNA, which they need to multiply. Zymaxid does not work against viruses.

Can Children Use It?

Zymaxid is approved for use in children one year or older. It has not been adequately studied in children younger than one year of age.

Can Older Adults Use Zymaxid?

Yes, older adults are expected to respond to and tolerate this medication as well as younger age groups.

Can You Use Zymaxid for Off-Label Reasons?

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend this product for something other than bacterial conjunctivitis. This would be called an "off-label" use. Zymaxid may sometimes be prescribed off-label to treat bacterial eye infections other than bacterial conjunctivitis.
