A healthcare provider may prescribe
Zymar® (
gatifloxacin) to treat an eye condition known as conjunctivitis ("
pink eye"). This product comes in the form of an eye drop and is normally used four to eight times a day, with the typical course of treatment lasting seven days.
The antibiotic works by interfering with two enzymes that bacteria need to multiply. Zymar comes in one form and strength: a 0.3% solution. No generic versions of the drug are available at this time.
(Click Generic Zymar for details on why you can't buy a generic form of this antibiotic, as well as information on when a generic version might become available.)
