Voltaren Ophthalmic Drug Interactions

If you use anticoagulants, antiplatelets, or steroid eye medications with Voltaren Ophthalmic, drug interactions could occur. These products can increase the risk of side effects or cause slow healing. To decrease your risk of developing potentially negative drug reactions, tell your healthcare provider about any other medicines you are currently using, including nonprescription ones.

An Overview of Voltaren Ophthalmic Interactions

Voltaren Ophthalmic® (diclofenac eye drops) can potentially interact with several other medications. Even though it is an eye drop, it may be absorbed from the eyes to the rest of the body. Some of the medicines that may lead to drug interactions with Voltaren Ophthalmic include:
 
  • Anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs, such as:
 
    • Aspirin (Bayer® and others)
    • Cilostazol (Pletal®)
    • Clopidogrel (Plavix®)
    • Dipyridamole (Persantine®)
    • Eptifibatide (Integrilin®)
    • Heparin or heparin-like products, including dalteparin (Fragmin®), enoxaparin (Lovenox®), or tinzaparin (Innohep®)
    • Other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as:
 
 
 
  • Steroid eye medications, such as:
 
    • Dexamethasone (Maxidex®)
    • Difluprednate (Durezol™)
    • Fluorometholone (FML®, Flarex®)
    • Loteprednol (Alrex®, Lotemax®)
    • Medrysone (HMS Liquifilm®)
    • Prednisolone (Omnipred™, Pred Forte®, Pred Mild®)
    • Rimexolone (Vexol®).
