Side Effects of Travoprost

Eye infections, macular edema, and allergic reactions are rare but potentially serious side effects of travoprost. Most side effects of the medication are minor, however, and do not usually require medical attention. Some of the more commonly reported Travoprost side effects include less clear or sharp vision, red eyes, eye discomfort or pain, and eye itching.

An Introduction to Side Effects of Travoprost

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with travoprost ophthalmic solution (Travatan®). However, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it well. If side effects with travoprost occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Serious Travoprost Side Effects

Some side effects with travoprost, while occurring infrequently, are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
 
  • Eye infections (if the bottle becomes contaminated with use)
  • Macular edema (swelling of the macula of the eye)
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
 
    • An unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling
    • Difficulty breathing.
