Timolol Side Effects to Report

Some side effects with timolol are potentially serious -- even life-threatening -- and should be reported to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
 
 
    • Water retention
    • Swelling in the hands or feet
    • Rapid weight gain (see Timolol and Weight Gain)
    • Coughing
    • Difficulty breathing
    • Shortness of breath 
 
  • Signs of an allergic reaction to the medication, such as:
 
    • An unexplained rash or hives
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling, especially of the mouth, lips, or throat
    • Wheezing or difficulty breathing.
 

Other Possible Side Effects

Some negative reactions were either seen rarely in clinical trials (in less than 1 percent of people) or were reported in patients only after the medication was approved, not during clinical trials. Therefore, with some of these problems, it is difficult to know with certainty if the side effect is caused by timolol or unrelated factors.
