As is always the case, do not adjust this amount unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
For most people, the starting timolol dosage when using the tablets to
treat high blood pressure is 10 mg twice daily. If necessary, your healthcare provider may increase this amount up to a maximum of 60 mg total per day, split up into two smaller doses per day.
The recommended starting dose of timolol for
migraine prevention is timolol 10 mg twice daily. Once your
migraines are under control, your healthcare provider may recommend taking this as just a single dose per day (20 mg once daily). Also, if necessary, your healthcare provider may decrease this to 10 mg per day or increase it to a maximum of 30 mg per day.
The recommended timolol dosage for reducing the risk of death or repeat
heart attacks in people who have survived a heart attack is 10 mg twice daily.
As with all
beta blockers, you should not abruptly stop taking the tablets, as serious problems (including heart attacks) may result. Your healthcare provider will advise you about how to safely stop taking this medication.
People are usually recommended to slowly reduce the dose over a period of time, with careful monitoring. It is best to minimize physical activity during this period. Let your healthcare provider know if you develop chest pain or any other problems while stopping the drug.
