Prolensa Drug Interactions

Prolensa Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Prolensa is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Corticosteroid Eye Medications
The combination of Prolensa and a corticosteroid eye drop (also simply called steroid eye drops) may cause eye tissue to heal more slowly. This may be especially problematic after eye surgery. It is unlikely that your healthcare provider would recommend both a steroid eye drop and Prolensa. However, if you are using a steroid eye medication for another purpose, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider before using Prolensa.

Latanoprost
Prolensa can make latanoprost less effective. If you currently use latanoprost, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction before using Prolensa.

Medications That Thin the Blood
Prolensa belongs to a group of medicines known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). NSAID medications have the potential to increase the risk for serious bleeding problems. This risk is even greater when NSAIDs are used in combination with other medicines that increase bleeding risks, such as anticoagulants or antiplatelets (commonly described as "blood thinners").

The likelihood that Prolensa would actually interfere with blood thinners and cause serious bleeding problems is low, as Prolensa is an eye drop and very little of the medicine enters the bloodstream with normal use. However, because bleeding problems can be serious, these medicines should be used together cautiously. Talk to your healthcare provider before using Prolensa with an anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicine.
