Closed Caption - What Are Your Choices for Correcting Vision Problems?

PRK is an effective surgical procedure to lessen or eliminate your dependency on glasses or contact lenses.

However, there are other types of eye surgeries available to treat certain vision problems. It is important to remember that each of these alternative surgeries may be appropriate in a certain group of patients and may not be appropriate in your particular situation. Your eyecare provider will let you know which of these options are appropriate in your individual situation.

These include:

· LASIK,

· intracorneal rings,

· phakic intraocular lenses,

· refractive lensectomy,

· RK(radial keratotomy), or

· AK(astigmatic keratotomy)

Your doctor feels that these surgeries are alternatives in your specific case. And another alternative is that you may simply continue to wear your glasses or contact lenses. If you have questions about any of these alternatives for your particular situation, you should discuss them with your doctor and decide which one, if any, is appropriate for you. In some cases, your doctor may recommend a combination of these procedures.
