Closed Caption - Leaving the Laser Suite (PRK)

When you leave the laser suite, you will be given specific instructions for taking care of your eye and discharge instructions for driving, activity level, medication, and any further restrictions necessary. Your healthcare provider will go over any symptoms that require medical attention.

You should rest for the remainder of the day and apply your eye drops as directed. It typically takes 3 days for the epithelium to grow back, where it was wiped away. While it is growing back your eye may tear, be light sensitive and red. It may also feel like there is sand in your eye, or like your contact lens is dirty. This is normal.

Your vision may also become worse after about 2 days, because the healing of your epithelium will be reaching the center; but it will then gradually improve over the next few days. Most patients are able to return to work and begin driving within 4-5 days of their procedure.

To minimize the chance of infection, you should keep your hands clean, avoid hot tubs or swimming pools for one month, and use the eye drops as directed. ou will return for a follow-up examination the next day and also within the first week to monitor the healing. The bandage contact lenses will be removed when the surface has healed.
