Ocuflox Drops in Infants
Ocuflox® (ofloxacin ophthalmic solution) is a prescription eye drop used for the treatment of conjunctivitis ("pink eye") and corneal ulcers. It is an antibiotic medication that is only effective when the infection is caused by bacteria. It will not work for viral eye infections.
Are Ocuflox eye drops safe for infants? Although the eye drops are approved for use in children, they are not meant for use in children younger than one year old. There are concerns about possible bone, joint, or tendon problems with the use of oral fluoroquinolones in children; however, topical use in the eyes is believed to be safe.
