Maxidex Drug Interactions

Although it is unlikely that Maxidex would cause significant interactions with most drugs, this eye drop may negatively react with a few other eye medications. Some of these other eye medications may include Xibrom, Ocufen, and Nevanac. Using Maxidex with these types of eye medicines may slow down the healing process for your eye problem.

An Overview of Interactions With Maxidex

Maxidex® (dexamethasone ophthalmic suspension) is a prescription eye medication approved to reduce inflammation and swelling from certain eye conditions. It is generally thought that too little of the medicine is absorbed from the eye into the bloodstream to cause significant drug interactions in most situations. However, Maxidex may interact with a few other eye medications.
 
Some of the medicines that may lead to drug interactions with Maxidex include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) eye medicines, including:
 

 

Using steroid eye medicines, including Maxidex, with NSAID eye medicines might slow down the healing of eye problems. These medications are generally not used together. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction before using Maxidex with an NSAID eye medicine.
 

Final Thoughts on Drug Interactions With Maxidex

At this time, it seems unlikely that Maxidex would interact with other medications, as very little of it is expected to be absorbed into the bloodstream. However, this does not necessarily mean that there really are no drug interactions with Maxidex. This medication has not been studied with every possible drug, and there may be negative interactions that are yet to be discovered.
