Eyes Home > Drug Interactions With Ranibizumab
Ranibizumab (Lucentis®) is unlikely to interact with most other medications since it is injected directly into the eye and very little of the drug reaches the bloodstream. Because most of the body is exposed to low levels of ranibizumab, drug interactions are not likely. However, it is important to understand that ranibizumab has not been thoroughly studied with other medications, so it is possible that there are drug interactions with ranibizumab that are not currently known. It is known that combining the medication with verteporfin photodynamic therapy (PDT) can increase the risk of serious eye inflammation. Verteporfin PDT is another macular degeneration treatment
Because not all drug interactions with ranibizumab are known at this time, you should talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider on a regular basis about any specific drug interactions that may apply to you.
