When using Lotemax for treating inflammatory eye conditions, the recommended amount is one or two drops into each affected eye four times daily. Your healthcare provider may recommend a higher Lotemax dosage during your first week of treatment, up to one drop every hour. If you wear contact lenses, make sure to take them out before using Lotemax.
An Introduction to Dosing With LotemaxThe dose of Lotemax® (loteprednol etabonate) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on the severity of your eye condition and how you respond to the medication. As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
Lotemax Dosage for Inflammatory Eye ConditionsThe recommended dosing for treating inflammatory eye conditions is one or two drops of Lotemax into each affected eye four times daily. During the first week of treatment, your healthcare provider might recommend a higher dosage (up to one drop every hour) to help get the inflammation under control. If you do not see improvement within two days, check with your healthcare provider.
Only the drop form of Lotemax (not the ointment) is approved for these uses.
Lotemax Dosage After Eye Surgery
Lotemax drops are approved to treat postsurgical eye inflammation, and Lotemax ointment and gel are approved to treat postsurgical pain and inflammation. For the drops or gel, the standard dose is one or two drops into each affected eye four times daily. For the ointment, the standard dosage is a half-inch ribbon applied to each affected eye four times daily. For either, the medication is usually started 24 hours after surgery and continued for about two weeks.
