LASIK is an effective surgical procedure to lessen or eliminate your dependency on glasses or contact lenses.
However, there are other types of eye surgeries available to treat certain vision problems. It is important to remember that each of the alternative surgeries are specific to a certain group of patients and may not be appropriate in your particular situation.
These include:
· PRK or photorefractive keratectomy,
· intracorneal rings
· phakic intraocular lenses
· refractive lensectomy
· RK which is radial keratotomy,
or
· AK which is astigmatic keratotomy
Your doctor feels that these surgeries are alternatives in your specific case. Another alternative is that you may simply continue to wear your glasses or contact lenses.
If you have questions about any of these alternatives for your particular situation, you should discuss them with your doctor and decide which one, if any, is appropriate for you.
