Eyes Home > Timolol Medication Information

Timolol is a prescription beta blocker that comes in many forms. Timolol tablets (Blocadren®) are approved for preventing migraines, treating high blood pressure, and reducing the risk of future heart attacks and heart-related death in people who have had a heart attack. Timolol eyedrops (Betimol®, Istalol®, Timoptic®) are used for treating high eye pressure and open angle glaucoma.

Your healthcare provider will take several factors into account when determining your dosage, such as:

  • The particular product being used
  • The medical condition being treated
  • How you respond to the medication.
  •
If you have certain other medical conditions, such as liver disease or a slow heart rate, your healthcare provider needs to know this information when prescribing this medication. Timolol may not be appropriate in these situations, and discussing these and other issues with your healthcare provider will help ensure the safety and effectiveness of your treatment plan.
