Eyes Home > Ketotifen Eye Drops

Available without a prescription, ketotifen fumarate ophthalmic solution (Alaway®, Zaditor®, Zyrtec® Eye Drops, Claritin® Eye) is used for treating eye itching caused by allergies. For example, it can treat eye allergies due to:
  • Pollen
  • Ragweed
  • Animal hair
  • Animal dander.
Ketotifen eye drops are applied to each eye twice a day. The medicine is an antihistamine, which means it decreases the release of histamine from cells in the body, thus reducing allergy symptoms.
As with any medicine, these eye drops can cause side effects. However, if side effects do occur, they tend to be minor and easy to treat. Serious reactions are less common. Possible problems with ketotifen include but are not limited to:
  • Red eyes
  • Headaches
  • Stuffy or runny nose.
