Eyes Home > Cataract Information

Cataracts occur when there is a clouding of the lens of the eye. While there are several different types of cataracts, age-related cataracts are the most common.
Possible cataract symptoms include:
  • Blurry vision
  • Double vision
  • Poor night vision
  • Frequent prescription changes for eyeglasses or contact lenses.
Because these problems can also be caused by other medical conditions, you should see an eyecare professional if you have any of these symptoms. In most cases, the only available treatment for a cataract involves surgery. However, it is a very common procedure -- over a million cataract surgeries are performed each year in the United States.
(Click Cataracts for more information on this topic, including the different types of cataracts, risk factors, and things that may be able to slow down a cataract's growth.)
