Side Effects of Levofloxacin Ophthalmic Solution

Although most people do not experience problems while using levofloxacin ophthalmic solution, side effects can still occur. Some of the most common problems include a temporary loss of vision, fever, and irritation or discomfort in the eye. In most cases, side effects are minor; however, contact your healthcare provider immediately if you develop serious problems, such as severe eye pain, hives, or difficulty breathing.

As with any medicine, levofloxacin ophthalmic solution (Iquix®, Quixin®) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

Some side effects are potentially serious, and should be reported to your healthcare provider immediately. Potentially serious side effects of this eye medicine include:
  • Severe or persistent eye redness, irritation, or pain that does not go away or that gets worse with repeated use of the medication
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
    • An unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling of the mouth or throat
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing or swallowing.
