Side Effects of Latanoprost
Change in eye color, darkening of the eyelids, and blurred vision are some of the most commonly reported side effects of latanoprost. Other side effects that have been reported by people using latanoprost include eye pain, sensitivity to light, and eyelid crusting. While most latanoprost side effects are minor, some require immediate medical attention, including blood clots in the eye, retinal detachment, and eye infections.

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with latanoprost ophthalmic solution (Xalatan®). However, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with latanoprost. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of latanoprost side effects with you.)
Some side effects with latanoprost, while occurring infrequently, are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include, but are not limited to:
- Eye infections (if the bottle becomes contaminated with use)
- Blood clots in the eye
- Retinal detachment (which can lead to blindness)
- Signs of an allergic reaction, including an unexplained rash, hives, itching, unexplained swelling, or difficulty breathing.
