Side Effects of Ketotifen

Other Possible Side Effects

Ketotifen has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials in which the side effects are carefully documented. In these studies, the most common ketotifen side effects (occurring in 10 to 25 percent of people) included:

  • Eye redness
  • Headaches
  • Runny or stuffy nose.

Other reported side effects (all occurring in less than 5 percent of people) included:

  • Burning or stinging
  • Eye discharge
  • Dry eyes
  • Eye pain
  • Itching
  • Dilated pupils
  • Sun sensitivity of the eyes
  • Flu-like symptoms (such as a fever or chills)
  • Sore throat.

It should be noted that many of these side effects are also symptoms of allergies, and it is possible that they are not related to ketotifen use at all.

Final Thoughts on Ketotifen Side Effects

You may experience some or none of the side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have side effects from a medicine that you have never tried. Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects while taking the drug or if something "just does not seem right." While it may not be a side effect, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
