Unoprostone Ophthalmic Solution Information

Adults who have open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension (high eye pressure) may receive treatment with a medication called unoprostone ophthalmic solution (Rescula®). This prescription medicine comes as an eye drop that is used in the affected eye(s) twice daily. It works to lower eye pressure by increasing the amount of fluid that drains from the eye.

Although most people who use this medicine tolerate it fairly well, side effects are possible. Some of the potential side effects include dryness, burning, and itching of the eyes. Fortunately, most reactions to the drug tend to be mild and easy to treat.

While this drug can be effective, unoprostone ophthalmic solution is not appropriate for everyone. Information on your medical history should be reviewed with your healthcare provider before using this product to minimize your risk for certain complications. This includes warnings for people who have certain allergies, those who have had eye surgery in the past, and women who are pregnant or nursing.
