Brimonidine/Timolol Drug Information
Brimonidine/timolol (Combigan®) is a prescription eye drop used to lower eye pressure. It contains two separate active ingredients: brimonidine (an alpha agonist) and timolol (a beta blocker). This product is generally used when just one medication alone is not effective enough for controlling eye pressure. Specifically, it is designed to lower eye pressure in people with the following conditions:
- Chronic open-angle glaucoma
- Ocular hypertension (high eye pressure that is not accompanied by changes in vision or damage to the optic nerve, as would happen with glaucoma).
This drug is not appropriate for everyone; your healthcare provider needs complete information on your medical history and what medications you are taking before prescribing brimonidine/timolol. Also, let your healthcare provider know if you have any allergies or are pregnant, thinking of becoming pregnant, or breastfeeding.
