Available by prescription only, dorzolamide hydrochloride (HCl) is a medication sold under the brand name Trusopt®. It comes in the form of an eye drop and is used to lower eye pressure in people who have:
- Chronic open-angle glaucoma
- Ocular hypertension (high eye pressure that is not accompanied by changes in vision or damage to the optic nerve, as would happen with glaucoma).
The eye drops are generally used three times a day. In clinical trials, the most common side effects included a bitter taste and burning, stinging, or discomfort in the eye.
