An Introduction to Dosing With Dorzolamide
There is only one standard dose of
dorzolamide hydrochloride (
Trusopt®), regardless of your age, weight, or the severity of your
glaucoma. As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
Standard Dorzolamide Dosage
The recommended dorzolamide dosage for treating glaucoma or high eye pressure is one drop in the affected eye(s) three times daily. It is generally not recommended to increase this amount beyond the standard recommended dose, even if your eye pressure remains high.
If this dose does not adequately lower the pressure in the eye, your healthcare provider may add another type of
glaucoma medication.
General Information on Using Dorzolamide
Considerations to keep in mind during treatment with dorzolamide include the following:
- Soft contact lenses can absorb the preservative in these eye drops. In order to avoid this problem, you must remove the lenses before using dorzolamide and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
- If you use other eye drops in addition to dorzolamide, wait at least 10 minutes between the dorzolamide dosage and that of the other eye medication.
- In order to prevent contamination of the drops, do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surface, including the surface of the eye or the skin.
- For dorzolamide to work properly, it must be used as directed.
- If you are unsure about anything related to your dose of dorzolamide, please talk with your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
