Ciloxan and Otitis Media

Ciloxan® (ciprofloxacin ophthalmic) is a medication used to treat certain bacterial infections of the eye, specifically bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye) and corneal ulcers. Although this medication is specifically approved for eye infections, some people may wonder if you can use Ciloxan for treating otitis media (middle ear infections).

Although there are some off-label (unapproved) uses of Ciloxan in the United States, these indications do not include treating ear infections. However, in other countries, there may be Ciloxan products formulated for use in treating ear infections.

(For more information on why this medication is not approved to treat otitis media, click Ciloxan Uses. This article provides an in-depth look at the specific uses of Ciloxan, including possible off-label uses and details on how this eye medicine works.)
