Intraocular pressure, or increased pressure of the fluid within the eye, can occur following cataract surgery for various reasons. For example, gel used in the eye during surgery can sometimes remain in the eye after the surgery. This can cause increased eye pressure.

If increased pressure occurs in the eye, the treatment recommendations will depend on the degree of pressure, your symptoms, status of the optic nerve, and the cause for increased pressure. Since the eye removes the gel on its own, the eye pressure should soon return to normal if the gel was the cause of the increased pressure. However, your doctor may choose to give you some extra eye pressure lowering drops.
