Closed Caption - Cataract Surgery Risks -- Implanted Lens Displacement

The implanted lens can become displaced in several ways. It is estimated to occur in less than 3 out of 100 procedures, with most of these having little or no significance in vision. Some patients may have eye conditions that may increase the risk of lens displacement. If you are at a higher risk for this, your healthcare provider will discuss this with you prior to the surgery.

Again, the treatment and possible outcome will depend on the type, severity, and location of this displacement. In mild cases of displacement, the result can cause no problems or mild vision problems such as "glare" that are easily treated with medications. Other cases may involve another surgery to replace the lens to its original position and secure it in place.
