Brimonidine/Timolol

If you have high eye pressure, your healthcare provider may recommend brimonidine/timolol, a prescription eye drop used to decrease the amount of fluid in the eye. The medication comes in one strength and is used twice a day. Eye allergies, itching, and stinging are among the drug's most common side effects; however, most people are able to use it without any problems.

What Is Brimonidine/Timolol?

Brimonidine/timolol (Combigan^®) is a prescription eye drop. It contains two different active ingredients: an alpha agonist (brimonidine) and a beta blocker (timolol). It is approved to treat high eye pressure in people with chronic open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

Are There Side Effects?

Just like any medicine, brimonidine/timolol can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious reactions are less common.

In clinical studies, the most common side effects seen with this medication included:

Eye allergies (allergic conjunctivitis)
Eye redness
Eye burning and stinging
Eye itching.
