Betoptic Drug Interactions

Betoptic Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Betoptic is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Alpha Blockers
Combining Betoptic with an alpha blocker can increase the risk of dangerously low blood pressure (hypotension). Although this is probably more of a problem with oral beta blockers (rather than beta blocker eye drops like Betoptic), it is still a good idea to check with your healthcare provider before combining such medications.

Calcium Channel Blockers
Combining Betoptic with certain calcium channel blockers may cause dangerously low blood pressure and (for verapamil or diltiazem) a slow heart rate (bradycardia) or heart failure. Although this is probably more of a problem with oral beta blockers (rather than beta blocker eye drops like Betoptic), it is still a good idea to check with your healthcare provider before combining such medications.

Certain Arrhythmia Medications
Combining Betoptic with certain arrhythmia medications may cause a dangerously slow heart rate (bradycardia). Although this is probably more of a problem with oral beta blockers (rather than beta blocker eye drops like Betoptic), it is still a good idea to check with your healthcare provider before combining such medications.

Clonidine
If you take clonidine with a beta blocker such as Betoptic, stopping clonidine (without stopping the beta blocker) could increase the risk of dangerously high blood pressure, strokes, and other serious problems. This is probably more of a concern with oral beta blockers, although it could still happen with beta blocker eye drops (like Betoptic). Make sure to check with your healthcare provider before stopping clonidine.
