Welcome to the Eyes Channel
Your eyes allow you to see by detecting light from your surroundings and recording images onto the retina (which is located at the back of the eye). The lens of the eye works much like a camera lens, focusing light onto the retina. Another part of your eye -- the iris (or the colored part of your eye) -- controls the amount of light that goes through the pupil.
There are a number of conditions that can interfere with your eyes' ability to do their job. For example, cataracts are vision problems in which the lens of the eye becomes clouded, often causing blurry vision and double vision. A detached retina is another eye problem that can cause blurred vision, among other symptoms. This vision problem occurs when the retina is pulled or lifted from its usual place in the eye. If not treated immediately, a detached retina can cause permanent vision loss. A few other examples of problems that can occur with the eyes include a perforated cornea, a macular hole, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy.
